Christen's soldiers win another one
It was a cocky, self-posessed Team White that took to the ice last night, bound and determined to win another one for their injured captain.
"Brett means everything to this team" said veteran defenseman Ed "Big Head" Chasse, "I just hope we can fill his shoes"
The big headed defenseman had just found out that his captain's absence was due to a "back injury" sustained while indulging in his vigorous work out regimen.
"Brett trains day in and day out" said Chasse "I just wish I had his stamina"
Lack of stamina aside, Chasse had little to worry about as the White Squad easily cruised to a 2 goal victory, padding their lead in the total goal series by 6. The Christenettes, with only two on the bench, were led once more by the offensive play of Lawrence Livesay and Victor Trudel. The two chipped in for five of Team White's goals.
"I like to skate fast, Lawrie likes to skate fast. We go to the net, we score. Me like hockey" said Trudel after the game. "You give me award now?" Not yet Victor, but keep up the good work.
Also contributing for the White Squad was defensive stalwart Andrew Carter.
"I was a little worried that Ronnie the K would have the same game he had last week" said Carter after the match "but I forgot to note the Red team's lack of defense"
Cocky and talented. Top this all off with a solid goaltending performance from George Maclaren and this team seems unbeatable.
So what hell is wrong with the Red Squad? Is it lack of leadership? Selfish play? Or just plain apathy? The Red team had better get its act together quickly or risk going down in one of the worst defeats in TNH Play-off history. Veteran defenseman Paul "Lawyer Boy" Swanson, didn't seem to think that the Red Squad was in trouble.
"We'll come back, you can count on it. We're only down six"
Is Swanson making a promise he can't keep?
"I predict a shut out next week, we're going to even this one up. You can quote me on it. Six nothing Red."
"Six goals Paul?"
"I have it from good sources that not only will G. Lee be back, but Mark Lewis as well"
The Red Team seems to have all the elements for success - the defensive work of Manning and Woolley, the timeless playmaking of Kohn and Bugden - they just better hope it comes together on the same night very soon.
It certainly has enough grit, embodied mainly in the person of the man in black - Craig "Johnny Cash" Middaugh. Mr. Middaugh tried to stir the pot for the Red Squad several times last night, even going as far as to stage a short dance routine with noted white agitator - Paul Harp. Lil Poutino was not taking the bait.
Lil Poutino, who despite the Hab victory managed to make it out last night, had this to say:
"Mr. Middaugh reminds me a lot of Eugene Lee in his early days" said an extremely calm Harp after the game "Eugene's changed, I've changed" said Paul. "And I know Mr. Middaugh can change to"
Lets hope so. Commissioner Ed Chasse will have to keep his good eye on this one.
The Red Team's backs are to the wall. Lets see how they respond next week.
