Carter overjoyed at getting Ashby, Sept 24-08

The rookie TNH Captain was grinning from ear to ear last night, overjoyed to be able to pick neighbour Tim Ashby for his team.

"Tim's got a lot of skill, I'm looking for big things from him. He's a little shy right now, and as a rookie will need a lot of guidance - I'm just glad he didn't have to suffer the wrath and indifference of the Velagic squad"

Former Goon Boy and Red Squad Captain Ned Velagic's rookie hazing episodes are legendary.

Carter knows all too well what being a rookie is about. After joining the TNH a scant 6 years ago, he was subjected to many indignites at the hands of Velagic.

"I don't think Tim's ready for the razor and honey treatment" says Carter "I know I wasn't"

But Carter survived the close shave(s) and his meteoric rise through the TNH ranks is becoming legend.

"I owe it all to my mentor and defense partner Mr. Chassé."

Carter who appears on the verge of taking over Chassé's positon as commissioner, was cocky and self-assured at last night's draft.

"I know I have the team to beat"

The turnout for the annual event, held at the Cadillac Sporting lounge was sparse.

"Guys get nervous around draft time" says Commissioner Chassé " despite the fact that we try to make it as painless as possible - including free beer and a draft held "in camera".

"So where's the cameras?" said veteran Michael Kohn, one of the few who showed "More beer for us"

Will Ashby be the sleeper that Carter hopes? When asked if he will be helping in the rookie education, a less than cheery Brett Christen and Carterite asked:

"Who's Ashby?"

And as the saying goes, let the whining continue.
